WRITING

This is the page to show their progress in WRITING. Ethan has been writing his own name now, for at least a year. He can also write some other words now. One day last spring, he had been watching Between the Lions, on PBS, & over an hour after watching it came to me & asked "Mommy, can I write something for you"? I said "Sure honey", and gave him some paper  and pen. He wrote O, P, ... and I thought he was just practicing some letters of the alphabet. I said excitedly,"honey, you wrote O & P"! He said "Yeah," and then he wrote E, N. I grabbed him and hugged him, and said "YOU WROTE OPEN"! Then I had remembered that over an hour earlier, he had seen the word "OPEN" on Between the Lions! Earlier that morning, before Tyler left for work, he had said that Ethan could use his stapler, and had shown him  how to make an envelope by folding the paper in half and stapling the sides. So Ethan made an envelope and brought it to me, and said "Look, Mommy,OPEN! He had written OPEN on it, and was showing me the inside of the envelope! He knew how to spell OPEN, and he also got the concept of what the word meant! I was so PROUD that I had to call daddy right away! Now, he will either ask me how to spell a word, and he will write it, or he finds something that he likes that has writing on it, and he will copy it. This morning, he found a tag off of one of his old Batman toys, and he wrote THE DARK KNIGHT.
